BACB Updates! | March 2025

The BACB has announced key changes to requirements for 2027. Here are the highlights:

Modifications to BCBA/BCaBA Coursework and CEUs (Effective 2027):

The requirement to integrate DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) content is being eliminated.
The focus will now be on cultural and contextual responsiveness within the Behavioral Assessment and Intervention and OBM (Organizational Behavior Management) courses.
Ethics CEUs will explicitly include topics related to cultural sensitivity and context.

Update on Verifications for RBTs:

It is clarified that RBTs must comply with two types of checks: a criminal background check and an abuse registry check.
Organizations must ensure compliance with local requirements and may mark “Not Available” if an abuse registry check does not exist in their state.

Multiple Certifications Policy:

Effective immediately, individuals may only hold one active certification at a time (RBT, BCaBA, or BCBA).
The previous certification will expire 180 days after obtaining the new one.

Upcoming Changes by Date:

These include certification restrictions for residents of Ontario, the UK, and Australia; changes to supervision requirements, RBT recertification processes, and new exam editions.
